Crafting 3 Ingredient Keto Coffee Mousse

I’ve always been a big fan of coffee – and coffee mousse…even better! Not only is it great for energy, but it tastes amazing. There’s something about that subtle hint of caramel with a nutty undertone that just dances on your palate. Luckily, coffee is a staple on the ketogenic diet so it’s totally okay to have, and mix with your favorite creams and sugar-free sweeteners (like allulose or Monk fruit), and maybe even a sprinkle of cinnamon (my favorite!).

So when I came across an Instagram post where they crafted the smoothest coffee mousse I’ve ever seen with just a few ingredients, I knew I could easily keto-fy this luxurious treat. And it’s super easy to make, just blend the ingredients until it resembles a whipped cream texture (like 2-3 minutes with a food processor), then enjoy!

I have to warn you though, this is for coffee lovers only as the espresso powder is very strong with this one. So if you prefer a mild coffee taste, you can always adjust by adding more water and less coffee (or use just regular instant coffee powder). As long as you blend it properly, the mousse will turn out beautifully and you’ll want to eat it on the regular. And who can beat a truly 3-ingredient recipe that only takes 5 minutes to make from start to finish!?

    Ingredients for Keto Coffee Mousse

Just 3 really real ingredients. Instant espresso powder, sweetener of choice, and water. Yes, I even included the water.

Ingredients for Keto Coffee Mousse including espresso powder, water, and sugar-free sweetener
    • Instant Espresso Powder – You need an instant coffee base for a coffee mousse. Any instant coffee will do really – make sure it’s instant (for real, you don’t want regular ground coffee). I chose Cafe Bustelo espresso powder mainly because it was on sale, but also because I love this brand when it comes to anything coffee. Their high quality beans just make any coffee recipe super bold and rich. I always reach for that yellow and red label in the coffee aisle!
    • Sweetener – Preferred sweeteners are allulose, Monk fruit, or stevia if you’re following the keto diet. Feel free to use any type of sweetener you like according to your dietary goals.
    • Water (or Ice) – Use filtered or distilled water, or you could even add ice with water instead. As long as you use some sort of blender or food processor that will really blend it smoothly, your coffee mousse will turn out great either way. It’s really just a matter of your personal preference.

How to Make Keto Coffee Mousse

The key to a light and fluffy texture coffee mousse involves just a couple steps.

How to make Keto Coffee Mousse
    • Add espresso powder, water, and sweetener of choice to a blender or food processor. I use the food processor attachment that came with my emulsifier.
    • Blend for about 2-3 minutes until it resembled whipped cream with stiff peaks.
    • And that’s it! Make sure the flavor profile is to your liking – this recipe is strong with a capital S – so you might have to adjust the amount of water if it’s too bold for you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Keto Coffee Mousse with bite
    1. Why don’t you use egg yolks or egg whites in this keto coffee mousse recipe? This recipe doesn't require egg yolks or egg whites, making it super simple. However, if you want a richer texture, you can incorporate whipped egg whites for a fluffier mousse.
    2. What kind of sweetener should I use? For best results, use a sugar-free sweetener like monk fruit or allulose. These keep the mousse keto-friendly while providing the perfect amount of sweetness.
    3. Can I add heavy cream, almond milk, or coconut milk? Absolutely! Heavy whipping cream can be used to achieve a rich and creamy texture. Coconut milk and almond milk are great alternatives for those looking for a dairy-free option. I omitted creams to keep it simple and lower calorie.
    4. Can I use stand mixer or electric mixer? An electric mixer or stand mixer would work for this recipe. I prefer using the food processor attachment that came with my emulsifier because it’s hand-held and easier to clean up. Any type of blender that that whip cream can create this mousse.
    5. How does this coffee mousse compare to chocolate mousse? While chocolate mousse is all about the deep, rich flavor of dark chocolate, this coffee mousse is for the coffee lovers out there. It delivers a bold coffee flavor that's balanced and smooth, much like a perfect cup of espresso.
    6. Can I add cocoa powder or melted chocolate to this mousse? Yes! Adding a bit of cocoa powder or melted dark chocolate can create a delightful mocha flavor, combining the best of both coffee and chocolate worlds.
    7. Is this mousse suitable for dinner parties? Definitely! This espresso mousse is the perfect ending to any dinner party. Its sophisticated flavor and elegant presentation make it a standout dessert.
    8. What are some simple ingredients to enhance the flavor? Vanilla extract and a pinch of instant coffee granules can intensify the coffee flavor and add a wonderful aroma to the mousse.
    9. Can I use heavy whipping cream to make it fluffier? Yes, heavy whipping cream is key to achieving that classic mousse texture. Whip it until soft peaks form for a fluffy, airy consistency. I left out creams in the recipe to keep it simple because this mousse should serve as a base to add on anything you like to suit your preferences.
    10. How can I achieve the best results with this recipe? Use cold ingredients and whip the mousse until it's just right. You can also use a small bowl to dissolve the instant espresso powder and sweetener first, ensuring no lumps and a smooth consistency.
    11. What makes this espresso mousse a great way to enjoy a sweet treat on a keto diet? Its simple ingredients and bold coffee flavor make it a delightful, guilt-free indulgence. Plus, it's an easy recipe that requires minimal effort but delivers maximum flavor.
    12. Can I incorporate this mousse to make dalgona coffee? While dalgona coffee has a different texture, you can certainly incorporate its whipped coffee mixture to create a unique and visually appealing twist on this classic mousse. I actually used my keto dalgona coffee recipe as a guide to create this coffee mousse!
